SaskPower Warns Customers of an Email Scam

SaskPower is alerting customers regarding a recent email fraud scheme designed to illicitly acquire personal information and credit card details.

The email appears as if from MySaskPower and asserts that the recipient has an outstanding bill requiring prompt payment to avoid service disconnection.

Embedded within the email are hyperlinks redirecting customers to external websites.

In response to this, the provincial Crown released a statement clarifying that only individuals with active MySaskPower accounts will receive official billing communications. The statement also emphasized that threats of disconnection due to non-payment would never be communicated via email.

If you have clicked a link in one of these fraudulent emails and provided credit card information – SaskPower encourages you to report the incident to your card issuer immediately.

SaskPower also offered the following information to protect customers from scam attempts:

  •  Double check the senders email address—the display name may appear legitimate but the address should be from @saskpower.com
  •  SaskPower never threatens disconnection through an email for non-payment
  •  SaskPower will never ask for payment via e-transfer, gift cards or bitcoin.
