King Charles is ‘doing well’ After Prostate Treatment
The King is reported to be in good health following a treatment for his enlarged prostate.
Accompanied by the Queen, the 75-year-old monarch was admitted to the London Clinic hospital on Friday morning, which is also where the Princess of Wales is recuperating from abdominal surgery.
The Queen departed from the London Clinic hospital shortly after 3pm on Friday.
Buckingham Palace earlier issued a statement: “The King was admitted to a London hospital this morning for a prearranged treatment. His Majesty extends his gratitude to everyone for their kind wishes over the past week and is pleased that his condition is raising awareness about public health.”
The King, who also visited his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, in the same hospital before his procedure, will reschedule his upcoming public commitments due to his treatment for an enlarged prostate.
He disclosed his diagnosis publicly to encourage men experiencing similar symptoms to seek medical advice as per public health recommendations.
Following the announcement of the King’s condition, NHS England reported a significant increase in traffic to the NHS website’s “enlarged prostate” page, with visits spiking to one every five seconds on the day of the announcement and continuing to rise thereafter.
The palace revealed last week that the King had returned to London from Sandringham in Norfolk on Thursday afternoon and would undergo treatment. This announcement came less than two hours after the news that his daughter-in-law had undergone abdominal surgery and would stay in the hospital for up to two weeks.
The NHS describes a benign enlarged prostate as a condition that can affect how people urinate, and is common among men aged over 50.
The NHS also said the cause of prostate enlargement is unknown, but it is believed to be linked to hormonal changes as a man gets older.
