Obituaries: Aileen ‘Kay’ (Toner) Smith

1936 ~ 2023 (age 87)

Aileen ‘Kay’ Smith peacefully passed away April 7, 2023 at the age of 87 years, with loving family by her side.  Mom was born in Kelfield Feb 28, 1936.  She was the sixth child of eight to Dan and Jo Toner.  She went to several different country schools and finished her education at the Convent in Biggar.  After graduation, she went to Saskatoon to work at the bank only to return home to start her career as a Telephone Operator.  She moved from Kelfield to Kerrobert and then to Coleville.

She enjoyed attending local and country dances with friends and that is how she met Dad.  A new chapter in her life began, with their marriage in 1958.  They lived on the Smith farm for six months, then bought their permanent home in Coleville.

Mom and Dad spent many wonderful summers traveling the chuckwagon circuit – from one town to the next and made many life long friends.  They, also; enjoy their cruises, trips to England and Ireland and of course the family trips to Disney.  Mom’s favorite vacation spot was her cabin at Cochin.  A place where immediate and extended family gathered.

Mom had many interests over the years from crafts, knitting, card and games, gardening, music, and was an avid reader.  Let us not forget the dancing. If music was playing mom and dad, were dancing.  Mom also joined many clubs over the years from Kinettes, Skating Club, CWL, K’ettes, Oil Wives and the Library Board, to name a few.  In her younger years, Mom was also known for being able to throw together a feast at special occasions.

Mom is predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, daughter Beth Smith (2006), son Greg Smith (2009), husband Don Smith (2013).

She is survived by her daughter Donna (Brian) Neumeier; daughter Susan (Warren) Lozensky, Lorraine (Brent Molyneux) Smith, Mike (Darla) Smith, Tracey Smith. Grandchildren Nikki (Ryan) Czemeres, Chris Neumeier, Geoff (Stacy) Neumeier, Courtney Neumeier, Adele (Kent) Fischer, Kyle (Brandi) Lozenky, Stephanie (Ian) Ali, Ali (Ryan St Cyr) Holmes, Marcus (Ashley) Holmes, Bailey (Brittney) Holmes, Justyne Smith, Travis Smith; Along with great grandchildren: Tara Czemeres, Mitchell Czemeres, Karlee Czemeres, Sydney (Bryghton) Robertson, Mason Clapper, Jayda Neumeier, Callie Neumeier, Jordyn Neumeier, Cooper Neumeier, Alivia Ali, Jaden Ali, Mya Shipley, Tristan Shipley, Emma Shipley, Noah Holmes, Nelson Holmes, Conor Fischer.
