West Central Abilities has established several fundamental teachings for its colleagues to enhance and strengthen their professional aptitude for working in the disability services sector. WCA is dedicated to ensuring its employees receive the most current trainings and recognizing current best practices that are essential in providing excellent care and services for supporting individuals.
Our staff team excel personally and professionally knowing that they are encouraged and supported in their career growth within our organization. It is vital that we provide our direct support professionals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to promote choice, independence, and quality of life for the individuals they support. Our teams learn to work cohesively together to assists individuals to reach their greatest level of independence, live lives that are meaningful to them and meet their individual needs.
We believe investing in our employees so they may gain competencies that are transferable from work to their personal life. Through WCA’s specialized trainings, employees achieve a great deal more then just knowledge, they gain experience, personal satisfaction, pride and understanding.
Trainings are provided through a unique engaging blended learning format that may include, classroom or online learning, workbooks, learning exercises, self-reflection, group-based learning and hands-on application, exams and mentorship from our skilled Trainers or professional instructors. Through some programs, learners earn Credit Units for the Disability Support Worker Certificate Program through Saskatchewan Polytechnic, should they choose to pursue post-secondary education in this sector at a later time.
Other trainings offered teach person centeredness, the philosophy of personal planning and strengthening skills and knowledge. Teaching behaviour is communication is vital for our teams, so they may learn positive strategies for helping the communication process.
WCA focuses its training and in-services in all areas of career development. Our goal is to create a balance within our professional training and development that is specific for persons working in this field. We believe when you learn and grow in your career and network with your peers, you will quickly realize that you are a part of something great!
