Rosetown Will See Increased Awareness of School Speed Zones

The latest round of grants from Saskatchewan’s Provincial Traffic Safety Fund has brought about several road safety enhancements across the province.

In Rosetown, there is now increased awareness of school speed zones, while North Battleford benefits from flashing crosswalk signage. Additionally, the Buffalo River Dene Nation now boasts bilingual Dene stop signs. These improvements are part of 114 projects in 106 communities that have received approval for Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grants. The grants, ranging from $1,024 to $80,824, amount to nearly $1.72 million, the highest awarded since the program’s inception in 2019.

The funding will be used for the installation of new signage, lights, crosswalks, and other traffic safety initiatives in important intersections, school zones, and high-traffic roads, throughout the province.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grants are made possible through proceeds accumulated from photo speed enforcement. Communities receive these grants twice a year, enabling them to enhance their traffic safety measures. Currently, the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant program is accepting applications for the next round of funding until September 30, 2023. Those interested can find more information on SGI’s grant programs page.

To be eligible for grant funding, projects must address traffic safety issues such as speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, occupant protection, or intersection safety. Applications are reviewed by a committee comprising representatives from various organizations, including the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, the Prince Albert Grand Council, the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Highways, and SGI.

Since 2019, the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund has funded a total of 671 community traffic safety projects, amounting to over $8.9 million. This ongoing support demonstrates the commitment of Saskatchewan to enhancing road safety throughout the province and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
