Extreme Cold in Kindersley Breaks Previous Record
Extreme Cold Continues Grip
Yesterday was a record-breaking day for the Kindersley area. Regarding all-time coldest temperature that is.
On Tuesday, January 14, Kindersley’s morning temperature was -37C without wind chill. This temperature broke the previous coldest record of -34C on January 14 in 2005.
If you were to factor in the wind chill, the temperature yesterday felt like -49C to the skin.
The cold weather is far-reaching, with nearly the entire province of Saskatchewan is blanketed in bitter cold this morning. Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings to nearly every district. An arctic air mass continues to hover over the province producing the bitter wind chills of over -40C.
According to Environment Canada, even colder wind chill values can be expected tonight and into Thursday morning, with the possibility of a few areas reaching wind chill values of -50C.
Currently the wind chill values are -46C this morning in Kindersley. Remember, frostbite can occur within minutes on days like today. Keep your skin covered from the wind and dress for the weather.
And remember, if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
