Heritage Sask. Hosts Summer 2020 Photo Contest

This summer, until September 8th, Canadians have a chance to enter their Saskatchewan photo in the Heritage Saskatchewan Summer Photo Contest–the prize winner not only gains recognition, but also cash prizes for 1st or 2nd place in each of the five photo categories.
Coined “Living Heritage Through the Lens” by Heritage Saskatchewan, the photo contest seeks to showcase the living heritage of our province through the eyes of people who call it home. This is the second year Heritage Saskatchewan is hosting the contest after taking a break in 2019.
Photos taken by Canadians in the province of Saskatchewan will be considered in the contest, as long as they fall under one of the five following categories:
- Living Heritage. According to the description on Heritage Saskatchewan photo contest website, this category seeks to encompass “values, beliefs, and ways of living received from past generations that we use to understand the present and make choices for the future.”
- Living Heritage Youth Category. This category is the same as above but takes photos from youth 18 and younger. These submissions require guardian consent.
- Our Urban Places. This category is to showcase that Saskatchewan isn’t all wheat and canola fields, Heritage Saskatchewan is looking for “streetscapes, buildings, and unique views of town and city life that demonstrate why these places are special to us.”
- Landscape and Nature. Hardly anyone knows better than a native to Saskatchewan that our life and work is based on the land. In this category, Heritage Saskatchewan is asking photographers to “represent Saskatchewan’s unique and diverse natural assets – from the ways we use and alter our environment to live and work, to the untouched, pristine beauty of our province’s wild places.”
- COVID-19 Culture. This category goes beyond the cliche 2020 COVID memes. Heritage Saskatchewan wants to showcase Saskatchewanians rising above COVID-19 by using cultural heritage to cope with the pandemic, as well as how COVID-19 has created new cultural markers.
