Kindersley Aquatic Centre to Host Free Water Polo Day August 29th

By Mallorie Rast

On August 29th, children and youth ages 9-16 will have an opportunity to experience some water fun at the Kindersley Aquatic Centre (KAC) during a free water polo event.

Intern Manager of the KAC, Tayna Phillips, is excited for the event and hopes that the day will garner enough interest in the sport for Kindersley to form its own water polo group.

An instructor team will be coming out from Regina for the day and is accepting 20 entries for youth ages 9-13, and 20 entries for youth ages 14-16. The groups will have split runnings, the younger group will play from 1-2:00 p.m., and the older group will be from 2-3:00 p.m.

Water Polo ranges from a fun hometown sport to an Olympic event, as the game challenges its players in the areas of fitness, speed, strength and skill. In a single game alone, one outfield player can swim a combined distance of 2 miles.

“As a winter sport, Water Polo could give Kindersley more options for fitness, competition and fun during the winter months,” Phillips said.

In many senior and junior water polo, teams have 13 players. Each team is allowed to have seven in the water at one time – six outfield players and one goalkeeper. All players, except for the goalkeeper, move about the pool in a continuous fashion throughout the game.

To sign up for the Water Polo day, you can call 306-460-2082 or register online at https://www.kindersley.ca/community/community-facilities/aquatic-centre/ then click under Program Registration>Fitness Programming>Youth Programing.
