Kindersley Legion Plans 100th Birthday Celebration

By Mallorie Rast

One of Kindersley’s own World War II veterans is turning 100-years-old this weekend, and the Kindersley Legion is determined not to let COVID stand in the way of celebrating this momentous occasion for their Comrade, Sir Herbert (Herb) Strutt.

In honour of Strutt’s 100th birthday on August 7th, 2020; the Kindersley Legion is planning a socially distanced drive-by Strutts residence in Caleb Village.

“We, Branch 57 and other guests, are going to march in honor of Herb’s 100-years-young birthday on August 7th,” said David Burke, Sgt. of Arms and branch member.

The full-dress event will kick off on Friday at 1:45 p.m., where the guests and branch members will march from the Alliance Church through the back alley to Caleb Village. Due to the necessary arrangements for the march/drive by, participants are asked to arrive at the Alliance Church parking lot no later than 1:35 p.m. The group will use the back alley access to Caleb Village in order to leave the front entrance available for normal traffic.

After the march/drive-by is completed, Legion members will return to the Legion Hall for socially-distanced Champagne.
