Museum Seeks Virtual Traffic in Light of COVID Restrictions

While Reopen Saskatchewan marches slowly on, the Kindersley Museum is exploring ways to give both the community and passing travellers a way to interact virtually while COVID-19 restrictions hold doors shut.
Even though splash parks, several sport fields and libraries can open with Phase 4.1, the museum is patiently waiting for the announcement of Phase 4.2 before deciding if the 2020 season will even be an option this year. In light of the summer season being covered by COVID, and winter creeping around the corner, the museum is now enthusiastically embracing the digital world by launching both a Facebook page and website.
“We would like to keep our community involved by posting virtual tours, giving access to community archives and providing a place in which people can relive moments of the district’s history,” Anna Polsfut, Communications Coordinator for the Town of Kindersley and spokesperson for the Kindersley & District Plains Museum noted in a recent interview with Kindersley Social.
As a part of the virtual interaction, the Museum is hosting their annual raffle sale on Facebook this year and is looking for businesses in the community to donate items towards the online event. The raffle will begin in early July and will be held over a period of weeks to allow the donated items to have a period of quarantine. Interested businesses can contact the Museum by either messaging the Facebook Page “Kindersley & District Plains Museum” or by calling the Town Office and asking for Anna. The proceeds of the raffle will go towards operating costs and collection upkeep.
The museum’s newly launched website, kindersleymuseum.wordpress.com, has been created so folks can browse community archives, keep up on museum news, and watch virtual tours that will soon be posted to the site. Designed to create a user-friendly experience for visitors, the website continues to be a work in progress and visitors are encouraged to visit time and again to see new updates and expansions.
