New faces greet returning Ironhorse Klippers fans in their new 2018-2019 season.

Clayton Jardine is the new Head Coach of the junior hockey team and is supported by returning General Manager and marketer, Tyler Orr.  Jardine, while new, is not entirely a stranger to the Kindersley area, as he spent the 2015-2016 hockey season with the Kindersley Klippers as an assistant coach.

Jardine had an impressive junior career with the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). During his years with the Kodiaks, he competed in two Royal Bank Cup National Championship tournaments, attained one AJHL Championship and one Doyle Cup.  He was Team Captain for the Kodiaks in an RBC Semi-Finals appearance and later moved on to play with The Merrimack Warriors of the NCAA for four years.

Jardine moved into the assistant coach position right after college, including his one season stint with the Kindersley Klippers, with his most recent team being the NCAA Division III New England College Pilgrims for the past two seasons. Jardine was hired on as the Klippers head coach in May of this year.

Not only is the head coach a new face, but the team as well has seen a few exchanges as twin brothers Nate and Clay Keeley from the Drumheller Dragons were exchanged for defenseman Brendon Borbely. Borbely was later re-acquired by the Klippers team. The Klippers have also exchanged former defenceman Josh Patrician with the Humbolt Broncos, time remains to tell what the Klippers received in the exchange.

The newly-made Klippers team started off strong in a pre-season game with the North Battleford Stars on September 3. The 3-0 shut-out game bolstered the Klippers’ spirits before they found themselves on the other side of a shut-out game with the Drumheller Dragons.

The regular-season-opener game will give the Stars another chance on the ice, as this Friday the Klippers will travel to the Battlefords Civic Centre for a rousing game.  The Klippers next home game will be on the following Saturday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the WCEC.
