Extension Cord Overheats, Causes Car Fire

On Friday morning, an overheated extension cord ignited a vehicle fire in Saskatoon, the fire department reported. The cord was connected to a car’s block heater on the 10 block of Moxon Crescent.

Firefighters arrived to find the vehicle’s engine completely ablaze, with the front of the garage melted from the heat. Damages were estimated at $15,000. With temperatures remaining above zero, the Saskatoon Fire Department advised residents to disconnect extension cords specially insulated for cold weather, as these can overheat quickly.
