Highway 44 to Receive Much Needed Improvements

Drivers who take Highway 44 can look forward to some improvements around the Madison area. During the August 21st week, Minister of Highways, Jeremy Cockrill, and MLA for Kindersley, Ken Francis met to discuss the much needed improvements for this highway–which in the 2023 CAA Worst Roads campaign, was voted one of the worst in the West Central region, especially around the Eston area.

“The Minister of Highways, Jeremy Cockrill, and I met with representatives from the Town of Eston and the Rural Municipality of Snipe Lake regarding the state of Highway 44 between Glidden and Eston. This discussion followed up on a summer 2023 meeting and continued dialogues spanning several months. Recognizing local concerns, the Government of Saskatchewan aims to enhance safety for residents, producers, and responders by improving this stretch of highway.

The Ministry of Highways has plans to upgrade 7 km of Highway 44 in stages, starting with 1.5-2 km in 2024. The initial focus is the Madison area, with crushing and stockpiling beginning this fall. I am grateful and excited to see the progression on the upcoming improvements on Highway 44.” – Ken Francis, MLA for Kindersley
