The Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery Is Back This Friday
Things may have slowed down during lockdown, but they are pleased to share that this Friday, September 4th they will back with a acrylic and print show by Olivia Maney titled “Sea to Sky” From the Rolling Waves of the Pacific to the Rolling Fields of the Prairies.
In this show, the artist uses her work to touch on the large migration at the turn of this century from Canada’s coasts to the prairies. Specifically her own journey from the West Coast to Saskatchewan.
This is a small touch on that journey of so many young people of her generation that struck out for Alberta and Saskatchewan to find work and adventure and the hopes of making a living and building a life.
This show highlights the three most Western Provinces and what is individually unique about them, but also what they all share. Discovering that while there are many scenic and cultural differences, there are also many binding scenes and practices. She hopes these works combined make a statement on how that large migration of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s changed not just our country as a whole, but also how it has changed the Province’s into what they are now (more connected and diverse than ever), Saskatchewan in particular.
These scenes are meant to be part of a familiar narrative for anyone who has spent time living or traveling through BC, AB and SK.
COVID-19 restrictions and precautions are being implemented. While the show is open for public viewing, only small groups may enter at one time. There will be no opening receptions held for the remainder of 2020, and opening receptions will be reviewed at the beginning of 2021.
However, in place of an opening reception a Facebook live event showcasing the artist’s work will be held and an interview with artist will be posted at a later date.
Lastly, hand sanitizing stations will be in place and a no touch policy will remain in effect.
