Malathion Applications Underway
In an effort to control the mosquito population, malathion will once again be applied by the Town to the green spaces throughout Kindersley. Application for Malathion, an outdoor insecticide, began yesterday, on May 15th, and will continue as needed throughout the spring and summer months. The Town will place signs at treated areas to notify visitors but the Town advises all residents that all green spaces will be treated this week.
Malathion can be applied topically and has shown to be effective in eliminating ticks and mosquitos.
All Kindersley parks will have a malathion treatment, including Baker Park, Senses Unleashed Dog Park, Fat Cats Spray Pad, ball diamonds, soccer fields and the Motherwell Community Walking Trail.
Standing water will also be treated with Vectobac to control and eradicate mosquitos at the larvae stage. This method has been a mainstay of Kindersley’s mosquito control program since 2010.
