For some, the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Monterey, California—the fanciest auto show in the country—is a chance to spy upon classic cars of which they could only dream.
Others show up with check books, because the auctions are a vital part of the events that make up the week leading up to the main event.
The classic car insurer Hagerty expects buyers to drop $370 million over the next few days, with more cars in the $10 million-plus range—11!—than in the year previous.
