Beaulieu and Kleiter Return to Defend

Formerly referred to as the Ramada Juvenile Championships, the Callie Club in Regina will be the host of the newly renamed Ramada U18 Provincial Championships. This competition is presented by the Optimist Clubs of Saskatchewan. There are 8 teams in each of the Men’s, Women’s and Open categories vying to earn a provincial title. All 24 teams earned their way to the provincial championship by winning out of their respective region competitions last weekend. Competitors in U18’s must be 17 years old as of June 30, 2015.

The Open Recreation category is for any combination of male or female player. The defending champions led by Desiree Beaulieu from Debden are set to make their claim for a second title.  The provincial title is the final competition for the Open category.

In a very strong and experienced Men’s category, the Rylan Kleiter team from the Sutherland Club in Saskatoon is looking to fend off challenges from teams such as Austin Williamson of Regina, Braeden Stewart from Maryfield and Dustin Mikush from Wadena.

The Women’s field will see a new champion as the Hannah Anderson team is not in the field. Looking to challenge 2015 Finalist and 2015 Winter Games winner Kaitlyn Jones from the Tartan in Regina are the Ashley Thevenot team from St. Front and Lumsden’s Cassidy Regush.

Sunday, March 20th will be Championship Day at the Callie with draw times at 9:00 AM, 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM.  Any of these 3 draws could see a champion emerge. The Men’s and Women’s categories run a “True Triple” meaning it takes 3 losses to be eliminated.  The draw is viewed as extremely fair with the only difficulty being to predict when the Final game will be played.  The Men’s and Women’s champions will represent Saskatchewan at the Optimist International U18 Championships in Edmonton beginning March 30, 2016.
