Winter Storm Watch in Effect for Kindersley and Surrounding Area
Enjoy the nice weather while you can because it won’t stay around for long. While the forecast calls for a high of plus 3 today in the Kindersley area, the temperature is expected to drop this evening as periods of snow begin. The wind will be increasing with speed, creating wind chill of -26 overnight.
On Friday a broad stripe of moderate to heavy snow will form over southern Saskatchewan. Snow is expected to persist until Saturday afternoon in the west and evening in the east.
Environment Canada expects widespread snow of 10 to 20cm over the region. Expected to produce heavy snowfall in Alberta on Thursday the storm will move into Saskatchewan. Uncertainty exists as to the exact area of the heaviest snow.
Kindersley can expect 2 to 4cm of snow on Friday. 30 km/h winds gusting up to 50km/h will be responsible for blowing snow in open areas. Reduced visibility is expected. Between the wind and falling temperatures the wind chill will be -25 in the morning and -30 in the afternoon. Such temperatures increase the risk of frostbite. Be sure to dress in layers and never leave skin exposed to the elements.
Areas of the Trans-Canada Highway have been included in the weather watch. If the system moves more northward these areas may not be included in future warnings.
Please stay alert for weather updates. If you are travelling be sure to check Highway Hotline for road conditions, as the accumulating snow will make travel difficult and visibility will be reduced. Be sure to travel with an emergency kit and keep others informed of your travel schedule.
