Bus drivers back in uniform after one-week protest

Bus drivers in Saskatoon are back in uniform.

On Wednesday, the Amalgamated Transit Union recommended drivers switch back to wearing their Saskatoon Transit uniforms after donning street clothes for a week in protest of failing contract talks with the city.

Union president Jim Yakubowski said he felt transit workers accomplished their goal of bringing public awareness to their issues with the contract talks.

The city sent the union three letters regarding the drivers’ outfits during the week, he said. The letters had no bearing on the union’s decision to move back to the uniforms.

Yakubowski said last week the drivers were protesting a recent counter offer from the city. The offer did not address issues in the union’s latest contract proposal, he said.
