Kindersley resident Gary Hamilton is being recognized among volunteers throughout the region for his significant contributions to the community of Kindersley.

Hamilton, a long-time member of the Kindersley Elks Club, will receive the Recreation – Professional of the Year Award from the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture, and Recreation at the organization’s seventh annual banquet, held April 13, 2016 in North Battleford.

Hamilton has been a champion of many causes over the years and his leadership on behalf of the Elks Club has been instrumental in managing the bingo program for 15 years and assisting the Town of Kindersley with recent improvements to the Kindersley Elks Hall. He also helped promote the installation of automated external defibrillator (AED) machines for both the Elks Hall and Seniors Centre, and has participated in a comprehensive facility review with Town staff in order to enhance and expand programming offered in Kindersley.

“Recognizing the efforts of our volunteers is something we should all do more of, and Gary Hamilton is so deserving of this honour,” said Acting Mayor Shaun Henry. “He is a tireless champion for Kindersley and has made our community better from his involvement.”

Added Chief Administrative Officer, Bernie Morton, who endorsed Hamilton’s nomination on behalf of the Town: “Gary Hamilton is an example of a lifelong volunteer; an individual who offers his time and resource to serve his community and encourage others around him to take part and make their mark.”

The Professional of the Year Award is presented to “an individual who is or has been a long-term practitioner and/or volunteer in the facilities sector and has provided valuable services and outstanding contributions towards the enhancement of facilities in the community.”
