Tyler Fuhr was just over a minute away from a shutout, and the Battlefords North Stars edged the Kindersley Klippers 2-1 in their Quarter-Final opener.
The big story was the goalie at the other end, as Nathan Hargrave made 43 saves on 45 shots for the Klippers. Shots were 22-5 after the first period, but the game was scoreless.
Finally in the second period the North Stars were able to sold Hargrave, and Layne Young in particular. This season’s Rookie Of The Year scored twice, 3:19 apart early in the frame, and that was enough offense for Fuhr and the Stars, although Josh Hayward spoiled the shutout with 1:10 to go.
Game 2 goes Saturday in Kindersley.
