Saskatoon police officer wades into river to save woman

Woman jumped from Sid Buckwold Bridge

Quick thinking by Saskatoon police saved a woman’s life yesterday.

At around 2:40 p.m. CST Wednesday, a police officer saw a woman on the walkway of the Sid Buckwold Bridge. When he came closer, the woman jumped off the bridge into the river.

Another officer climbed down the riverbank, walked into the river with a rope tied around his waist and rescued the woman.

The woman was taken to hospital, conscious and alert.

The police officer who walked into the river wasn’t hurt.
