Like most people I was initially a little skeptical of their accuracy. However, my thinking has changed.
There is no sensor in the engine that senses oil condition. The oil life expectancy is calculated by complex algorithms using data from driver throttle input, engine load conditions, altitude and ambient temperatures. This all determines when that oil change is due. There is nothing wrong with performing your oil change to suit each owner’s comfort level. In fact, I encourage customers to start thinking oil change when within their last 25 per cent. Simply because we tend to forget!
This system does have a couple of caution areas; firstly for people who are tardy with their maintenance. When the system shows “change oil now”, it means change it NOW, not in 2,000 kms. There is no forgiveness with this system.
Secondly, this system is dependent on accurately resetting the system. If it’s not reset you may find yourself backtracking and trying to figure out when your next service is due.
