Now that winter has finally departed, it’s time to think about going on a holiday.
And if you’re planning on driving then there are some things you need to make sure of. The biggest will be ensuring your vehicle is ready for the road.
1) Make sure your oil is changed along with a new filter
2) Check ALL other fluids under the hood. Top up or flush as recommended by the manufacturer
3) Check your wiper blades. These are easy to replace and new ones make a world of difference
4) Check your charging system. Your battery can become weak over time. Make sure connections are clean, tight and corrosion free.
5) Make sure all your lights are working. If burned out, replace it.
6) Check all belts and hoses for cracking and other signs of damage/wear.
7) How’s your fuel mileage? Maybe it’s time to replace your fuel filter/air filter or spark plugs?
8) Check your tires. Make sure the pressure is set correctly. Check for uneven or irregular tread wear and cuts. Rotate your tires every 10,000 kms and don’t forget your spare !
These tips are basic and easy to do. However, they are also easy NOT to do. Don’t spoil your holiday by having a breakdown because of something you forgot to check. Never neglect your vehicle maintenance. In the end it’s always cheaper to be proactive and catch little things before they become big things.
