Youth do Kindersley Proud at Golf Districts, Provincials

Several golfers from the Kindersley area wrapped up their season last week in district and provincial matchups on Wednesday and Saturday.

After their regional victory in Outlook, the senior boy’s team was forced to disband due to scheduling conflicts. However, at least three young men, Brody Istace and Kyler Cote (Kindersley), and Riley Lahey (Eston) were able to represent their area in the SHSSA Provincial Golf Competition in Estevan, SK.

Held at the TS&M Woodlawn centre, the competition spanned September 21-22, giving each contestant two rounds in which to test his mettle. Out of 64 senior boys, Brody Istace placed third, Riley Lahey took 12th and Kyler Cote finished in 17th place.

The junior boys level didn’t have a provincial level competition this year but instead opted for a district-wide challenge.Kindersley reps Court Tunall, Keaton Cote, and Colby Kozicki all placed in the top five golfers at the event.

“All of our golfers did our area proud for sure,” noted Junior Boys Coach Rob Cote. “The challenges they faced were not easy, but they pulled themselves together and golfed well.” Cote noted that due to a myriad of reasons, the most common being schedule conflicts, Kindersley wasn’t able to take part in any team events. “We needed at least four boys for a senior team and four boys and one girl for the junior team—and this year we just couldn’t swing it.”

Cote also mentioned that this year Kindersley had several female golfers that also couldn’t make it to provincials or districts. “Jordan Gilmour would have been a part of our junior team before schedule conflicts had her elsewhere. An awesome team of four girls also were unable to represent Kindersley at provincials.”

Despite the lower numbers at the end of the season, Cote is optimistic for next year and hopes this positive end to the season will encourage other young golfers to participate.
