Richardson was also known very well for his story telling and served as a guest speaker at many functions across the province.

In an interview with CBC in March 2006, Richardson explained how the game had changed.

“There’s nothing like a bonspiel. In the old days, back in Regina, [we] used to hide the mickey back behind the scoreboard. They don’t do stuff like that,” he said with a laugh.

Amber Holland with the Saskatchewan Curling Association said Richardson embodied curling in the province.

“You knew when Sam was around, you knew when he was walked into a room,” she said.

“Just everything curling, like he embodied curling obviously in his playing days, to then afterward sharing his stories and his tales, just the passion he had for curling.”

Richardson was inducted into the Saskatchewan Curling Association’s Legends of Curling twice, first as a player and later as a builder.

A date for the funeral service is yet to be scheduled.
