Red Lions Aim to Give All They’ve Got in Playoffs

Sitting in 3rd place in the SWHL standings with 24 points, the Red Lions will give it all they’ve got while they enter the playoffs.

Things certainly got off to a good start at the beginning of the year when the Red Lions met up with the Eatonia Huskies on January 12. Strong on their home ice, the Lions gave fans something to cheer about as they skated off the ice holding the scoreboard 6–5.

Things got a little tougher when the Biggar Nationals came to town on the following night. The Lions defended their home ice, but the Biggar Nationals clipped ahead and ended the game 6-5.

The next two weekends weren’t any easier for the Lions. January 19 saw the Kerrobert Tigers give their home fans a wild ride and steal a 6-4 win over the Lions and follow it up with an even wider margin of 7-4 on the Lions’ ice on Friday.

The Lions ended their regular season on a good note as a 9 -8 away game over the Luseland Mallards gave them a lighter step moving into the playoffs.

In an interesting twist, the Biggar Nationals drew the Red Lions for their round in the Provincial A Playoffs. The first game will be an away game for the Lions this Thursday at 8:30 p.m., followed by a home game for the Lions on Friday, if a third game is needed the Lions will again host the Nationals next Wednesday.

The Lions drew the Shaunavon Badgers for their round in the Provincial A playoffs. The First game will be a home game at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, followed by their second game on the road the following Friday. If the third game is needed, it will fall on Sunday, February 11.
