Kindersley Bantams Take Last Saturday’s Game

With play-offs and provincial games, the minor hockey teams are flying on both home and away ice. With league, playoff and provincial games, the results come with a mixed bag of emotions.

The Peewees played their first provincial game on Tuesday against the Bruno Flames. On their home ice, the Peewees played hard but wound up losing to the Flames 7-3. Undeterred, the Peewees are ready to meet the Bruno Flames again on Saturday for their second round. The team is also excited for their first bus trip together as they travel to Dinsmore for their last league game on Sunday.

The Bantams rocketed forward with a stunning 10-2 against the Melville Millionaires on Saturday. “The kids worked hard, they won their ‘foot races’ and their battles,” said Assistant Coach Blaine Hilbig. He also noted that team effort was at a high.

Assistant Coach Rob Nutley was also pleased with Saturday’s game, naming the bantam’s speed and tenacity as two major factors in Saturday’s win. “Our offense was relentless in their fore-checking,” he added. “The depth of our defensemen’s lines is some of the best we’ve ever had and our two goalies played hard, I was proud of everyone’s skill.”

The Bantams will hit the ice again on Sunday for their second round against the Melville Millionaires. Coach Hilbig says the team is ready to make it another victory.

The Midgets competed against the KDL Tigers on Tuesday. Evenly matched, the two teams battled a close game until the Tigers gained the upper-hand in a tight 3-2. The Midgets will return to home ice on Friday in their first provincial game of the season, their opponents this game is the Wynyard Monarchs. The puck drops at the WCEC at 4:00 p.m.
