Last weekend was a good one for the Kindersley Red Lions, with two wins back to back; it successfully propelled them forward in the Provincial standing.
“It is always a great feeling to hit the next round of provincials,” grinned Coach Curtis Graham, “I think everyone across the team is pumped about our weekend results.”
Friday’s game saw the Red Lions meeting the Hague Royals for the third and final game. Now faced with a “win or go home” scenario, both teams were determined to give it their best. The first period was tense, with both teams playing hardest on their defense, stalemating the scoreboard at 0-0.
“Then the second period seemed to loosen everyone up,” noted Coach Graham, “Some penalty’s started happening, and so did the scoring,” he chuckled. “We scored a few goals in quick succession, and then never looked back.”
The Red Lions certainly didn’t look back; even when the Royals pulled the score even again, the Red Lions coolly slid the decisive goal home, ultimately winning at 3-2.
Still fired up from their last victory, the Red Lions sliced unto the ice again on Sunday, this time against the Eatonia Huskies. Blasting a few pucks into the net in quick succession, the Red Lions set the Huskies back on their heels during the first period. Then, one of Eatonia’s key players was pounded with a 9 minute penalty, and it was game over for the Huskies. The Red Lions took control of the ice with a resounding 9-4. Shayne Neigum whizzed an impressive 5 goals, while Jesse Ismond and Jonny Calkins each packed away two scores.
The Red Lions are ready to meet a tough, league game opponent, the Wilkie Outlaws. “They are an excellent team,” commented Coach Graham, “It’s gonna take all we’ve got to pull a win in a game with them.”
With loads of hard work, and little bit of luck, the Red Lions aim to make their game a win.
