After a run of seven wins, the Klippers are taking their turn on the low end of the score board.
Saturday’s game with the Melfort Mustangs was the third tough game that week for the Klippers. With the Mustangs landing a goal in the first two minutes, and quickly following it up with a second, the game was a rough start for Kindersley’s team.
Pulling their pieces together, the Klippers responded with a firm rebuttal goal by Cody Hodgson, assisted by Jordon Funk and Cole Plotnikoff. The second period found the Klippers fighting to again place themselves on the board, with the Mustangs gaining ground at 4-1. The third period brought a breath of fresh air to Klippers fans as Cole Plotnikoff and Sam Binfet each sent their puck home, pulling the score to 5-3. Despite these advances, the Mustangs pulled ahead yet again with a final score of 6-3.
The results of Saturday’s game followed hard on the heels of the previous two games that week. Wednesday’s match on the neutral ice of Unity ended with the Klippers routed in a decisive 6-1 game with the Battleford Stars. Friday, however, found the Klippers on a better footing during an intense game with the Nipawin Hawks. Tied at 3-3 in the third period, it looked as though the Klippers were going to take the ice, but the Hawks tipped the scales in their favour in the last minutes of the game.
The Klippers are too experienced to let the last few games get them down, they are already looking forward to meeting the Battleford Stars once more in a “rain-check” game next Wednesday (February 22). The puck drop at 7:30 p.m. in the WCEC, come on down for an exciting night!
