Council Approves 2018 Municipal Budget with No Tax Increase

Budget Reflects Council Priorities With no Increase in Taxes

The 2018 Municipal Budget has been approved by the Kindersley Town Council. This proposed budget will ensure the priorities of the Town Council towards smart spending, and starting new projects, all the while aiming to not increase taxes.

Some highlights of the $23.1 million budget include the completion of the Western Regional Landfill, the Kindersley Aquatic Centre and construction of a new Fire Hall. The new Fire Hall and Regional Landfill take up almost $3 million of this year’s capital budget. With the new Aquatic Centre representing $5.1 million.

The 2018 Mill Rate has not yet been approved by Town Council, the Mill Rate determines final taxes of property owners. Council aims to approve the Mill Rate later this month.

Also included in the Budget is enhancing of the parks throughout Kindersley, including irrigation and overall appearance of green spaces. Kinsmen Park will receive upgrades and Berard Field will have improvements made to the washrooms. Coleman Park will be constructed, along with $72,500 worth of new playground structures are included in the budget.

2018 infrastructure work is included in the budget at around $1.3 million. Which includes water main replacement, and new asphalt and concrete paving along King Drive and 2nd Street West. Also included is paving on 2nd Avenue West and drainage work in the Industrial Area.
