LANDON MILLER OF SPEEDY GLASS KINDERSLEY WILL COMPETE TO BE THE BEST WINDSHIELD TECHNICIAN IN THE WORLD
Did you know that the windshield is responsible for 30% of a vehicle’s structure? Landon Miller does. Shop Foreman at Speedy Glass in Kindersley, Miller treats every replacement and repair with the same high standard as the next.
A windshield is often taken for granted but it offers several important safety features. “The windshield deflects the airbags, making sure they are in the right place at the right time,” Miller tells us, considering this not only a job but a matter of public safety. In a province where roads are constantly offering up obstacles such as rocks, wildlife and generally bad weather, the correct installation of the windshield is of the utmost importance.
The consequences are often just a chip or a crack from a rogue missile, projected from another vehicle. But in the case of something more sinister, the vehicle technology combines with the windshield to support the roof in high-impact collisions and rollovers. And in those circumstances, the integrity of the installation and the technology used, are really put to the test. And after witnessing a private training session it clear to see why Landon Miller is considered an expert in his field.
It’s not only Landon’s expertise but his dedication to the job, that will see him return to the Best of Belron for his second attempt at becoming the best windshield technician in the world. Best of Belron is a global competition that sees the best technicians competing nationally before heading to the finals to represent their country.
The 2020 finals are in Barcelona, Spain and Miller will be representing Saskatchewan/Manitoba and Alberta as the franchise leader in Airdrie on November 5th. If successful he will then go on to represent Canada in the Nationals with the eventual winners going to world finals in Barcelona. Last time Landon competed he was third in the region and the first-place technician from our region that year would eventually go on to compete in the world finals.
Miller’s knowledge of the technology and years of experience will all come into play and he seems to be taking a methodical approach as always. “I’m ready and prepared for the upcoming competition – I’m not nervous about it, I’ve been there and I know what to expect”.
