Big names abound as mixed doubles curling nationals kick off in Alberta

Olympic champs Lawes and Morris won’t compete due to birth of latter’s son

LEDUC, Alta. — In just a couple of months, mixed doubles curling has gone from being an unknown quantity for Canadian curling fans to the talk of the sport — especially among some of the best in the game.

“It’s been pretty special,” said two-time world champ Jeff Stoughton. “The reception was more than could be expected. Anyone I was bumping into in Winnipeg over the last bit was talking about mixed doubles. They finally figured out what it’s about and they like it.”
