Robidoux Back In The Crease
The Flin Flon Bombers, who slipped to 6th place in the overall standings on the final night of the regular season, are now one win away from the SJHL Canalta Cup Final, following Wednesday’s 5-2 win over the Battlefords North Stars, which has Flin Flon up 3-1 in the series.
Zac Robidoux was the Bombers’ starting goalie when the playoffs started, but since being lifted midway through Game 1 of their opening round in Weyburn, hadn’t started another game since. Tuesday night, Robidoux came on in relief of Brenden Newton, who had admirably filled his shoes in the Weyburn series and the first two games in Battlefords. Robidoux was solid in relief, and got the nod to start Wednesday’s Game 4. He stopped 37/39 shots to give his club a stranglehold versus the league-leading Stars.
SJHL Player Of The Year Alex Smith led the way offensively with a goal and two assists. Defenseman Curtis Roach added a pair of goals, while Rylee Zimmer and Greyson Reitmeier added singles. Four of their five goals came on special teams, as the Bombers went 3/6 on the powerplay before Reitmeier added a short-handed marker.
Shots were 46-39 for Flin Flon, 24-5 in the first period alone, when the Bombers were building a quick 3-0 lead.
Layne Young (1g-1a) and Igor Leonenko did the scoring for the North Stars, who will host Game 5 on Saturday night.
