The Burger and Fries Farm is a hands-on agricultural learning experience for local students. The students will be planting in containers. Each of the containers will produce ingredients that can be used in making burgers and fries. This will include wheat for buns, canola for oil, mustard and vegetables for burger toppings, beef for patties and potatoes for fries.
The Burger and Fries Farm is designed to increase agricultural awareness within the community and among youth.
Stations will be set up at different planting and animal locations, soil health and Agronomy locations and staff will describe to the students how seeds develop into plants, the farming practices needed to sustain growth and the production of a consumable product. (i.e. cereals, oils, vegetables and animals).
In the fall we would like to involve the same students (now grade four) with the harvest and processing, culminating in a lunch of burgers and fries.
