TEN TOP DOG TRAINING TRICKS

A new dog to the family can be such a joy, but it also means consistent effort.  Whether the new addition comes into the family full grown or as a puppy, they will need to be trained.

Continuous Training-Just because your dog has the basic training does not mean it can’t handle more.  Teach something new to your dog for healthy brain function and to keep him active.  Always be challenging your dog.

Exercise-Do not allow your dog to get lazy or used to a routine.  Change up his  exercise routines.

Keep a Schedule-a dog should be on a schedule for feedings, walks, training and playtime.  Just like kids-schedule gives them comfort

Set Clear Boundaries-If a dog starts to get out of control, stop it immediately.  Put a stop to execssive barking, jumping on people or furniture, or soiling in the house when you see it happening.

Be Consistent-Consistency is needed throughout the family.  Everyone should use the same commands, disciplinary actions, rewards and schedules.

Give Gradual Reign Throughout the House-Do not let your dog roam freely through the house before it is properly trained-especially if no one is there to properly monitor their actions

Praise Them for Good Behaviour– We notice and reprimand a dog for bad behaviour, but we also need to be quick to reward for good behaviour-especially if it is unexpected.  A good example is hem being calm when other dogs around are barking out of control.

Show Your Dog Who’s in Control-Always show leadership to your dog by speaking with a firm tone and having them walk beside you-not charging ahead.

Reward Your Dog with Treats-Dogs will need more than just a pat on the head or told good job-sometimes you have to reward-not bribe-your dog with treats

Keep Your Dog Healthy-A healthy dog is a more focused dog.  Feed him properly and get plenty of exercise.

By taking the time to implement most of these rules daily, you are on your way to keeping your dog properly trained.  It’s best to train a dog while they are still young and befoe picking up any bad habits.  It’s never too late to train a dog—–YOU CAN TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS!!
