February 6, 2018 – Nominations of candidates are being accepted for three by-elections on March 1 in the constituencies of Kindersley, Melfort and Swift Current.
Per Section 31 of The Election Act, 1996, nomination day for candidates must be a minimum of 16 days before polling day and must not be on a Sunday or a holiday. Nomination papers must be filed with that candidate’s constituency returning officer before 2:00 p.m. on nomination day, February 13, 2018.
To qualify as a candidate in these three by-elections, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age on March 1, 2018;
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six months before the day the by-election was called (which is August 2, 2017);
After determining your eligibility, a candidate:
- files nomination papers that include signatures of at least four voters in your constituency, and
- pays a $100 nomination deposit.
