From the Grinch who stole Christmas, to fun Christmas season fare, to the Carols of the ages – this year’s Carol Festival held in Kindersley on December 2nd at 7:00 pm at St. Paul’s United Church was a great start to the Christmas season.
The hosts/M.C.’s for the evening were Ted and Cheryl Glass – husband and wife team from the community. Ted’s wry humour and Cheryl’s ability to contain the tangents provided a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Even the introduction of the benediction by Rev. Piotr Strzelecki referenced the humour, while his benediction itself was a great send off into the Advent season.
Musically, local residents, ranging in age from young to old, exhibited their talents – in vocals, piano, violin, guitar. The crowd themselves sang forth on carols that were exuberant and enjoyable. Four choirs were also present – a handbell choir from St. Paul’s United, one from Westberry elementary school, one from the St. Paul’s United Church and the other being the local community choir.
A treat for those present was a gathering of local music teachers in a Dixieland Band that rocked the house! From a tuba rolling out the running notes of the bass, to saxophones and trumpets, along with a trombone, that pushed forth great melody lines, to a drum beat that kept things in line and a piano that filled out the music – this is a true professional group of musicians located in this region!!
And, of course, the evening ended with thanks – for the volunteers, musicians and the audience, whose participation in singing along with their hardy applause spurred on a great atmosphere. Special thanks goes the current sponsor of this decades old tradition! The Kindersley and Distric Musical Festival Association – who will be holding their Spring Music Festival from March 18th- 29th, 2019 – have done a great job once again!
