University of Regina track & field head coach Bruce McCannel announced Monday that the Cougars have received commitments from nine high school athletes for the 2016-17 season, including seven for the women’s team.

The list is headlined by Austin Strauss (pictured), a standout from St. Mary High School in Prince Albert who won a gold medal in the 400-metre dash at the SHSAA Track & Field Championship earlier this month at Douglas Park. His winning time of 48.31 seconds in the event was more than two and a half seconds faster than the second-place finisher, and is one of the top times for a Canadian junior athlete this season.
