With just over a week until the first big race of the year, the Saskatchewan Motocross Association (SMA) has some great expectations for this upcoming season.
With relatively good weather and ride-worthy tracks across the province, riders are out practicing and readying themselves for the Saskatchewan Motocross Provincial Championship Series which starts May 14th in Assiniboia.
“Getting that seat time is critical to getting back into the rhythm and form,” noted Daryl Murphy, SMA board member, referee coordinator and 10 year rider veteran. “Those who put in the most effort and have the most seat time will for sure be the front runners when the gate drops.”
In order to get that seat time, SMA members have created a few fun runs for next weekend. On Sunday, May 7, Regina’s Motocross Club is holding a “Test and Tune Day” at the Moto Valley Raceway, where both members and non-members alike are encouraged to ready their bikes to the utmost. Some members of the SMA board will be on hand from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. in Regina to train and test the scoring equipment for anyone who wishes to learn more. As a bonus, laps are available for any rider who wants to use their MyLaps Transponder.
Saskatoon also is holding an exciting event at the Saskatoon Otopasso track. Called the Saskatoon Track n Trail, this icebreaker race is geared to help members prep for the Provincial race the next weekend.
Registration will run from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with the races starting at 1:00 p.m.
The SMA is always looking for members, volunteers, and new clubs to spring up; you can connect with them on Facebook at their page, Saskatchewan Motosport Association, on twitter @Moto_sma, and, of course, at their website, saskmotocross.com.
