The Eight Year Old Best Selling Author

Nia Mya Reese is winning at life — at the age of eight.

After telling her teacher she was an expert at caring for her (annoying) little brother she was encouraged to write a book about it, which she did and it has since become an Amazon bestseller.

The inspiration for Nia Mya’s book came after an assignment was given to her first-grade class, in which they were told to write about something they excel in. Nia Mya knew what she was good at: being a wonderful older sister to her “downright annoying” five-year-old brother Ronald Michael. Once finished her assignment her mother Chernita, suggested she keep working on the book over the summer, so after taking some time to refine her thoughts and with a little help from her mom, Nia penned How To Deal And Care For Your Annoying Little Brother.

The heart-warming book shares details on a number of important topics, including how to spend time alone, how to say sorry, and how to love your younger sibling.

But, when asked by CBS about her feelings towards her little brother, Nia Mya didn’t exactly beat around the bush.

“Aren’t most five-year-old brothers annoying?” she commented.

She also mentioned that in spite of her expertise, her brother isn’t always the best at taking her advice.

“He won’t always listen. You need to teach him sometimes.”

Nia Mya’s ambition has also rubbed off on her classmates. “It really has spread the excitement across our school for other young writers,” said Nia Mya’s teacher, Beth Hankins.

When asked by CBS about her biggest takeaway from the experience, Nia Mya replied: “I learned to follow my own dreams.”
