Faith in Fitness: First Annual Run for Freedom

Saturday, September 17, 2016, is a day to remember for Ashley Weyer, personal fitness trainer and CEO at Faith in Fitness Inc. That day, Faith in Fitness hosted its first annual run in Kindersley — a Run for Freedom.

The event was the fruition of six months of planning for Weyer and her business partner, Jennifer Bews. Bews is a marketing and event planner for Authentic Voice, a business which assists entrepreneurs with meeting their marketing goals.

The goal of the run was to raise funds to assist a project which focuses on child trafficking in India, Weyer explained. This project is a joint effort between the ICCM-CANADA, International Child Care Ministries, and The Set Free Movement. “There are 18 Million slaves in India, 12.6 million are children,” said Weyer. “It was my time to stand up and do my part.”

There were two events — a 10K run, which began at 9:00 a.m., and a 5K run, which commenced ten minutes later. Weyer was very pleased with the turn-out. In all, they were able to raise nearly $3,000 for the project in India.

“The Run For Freedom was sponsored by many great local businesses and cheered on by the community — the love and support we received left me with so much gratitude,” said Weyer. She was thankful for the many volunteers that showed up, including an ambulance and three EMT’s who ensured safety during the event. “The town of Kindersley was more than helpful, delivering barricades and helping us make the day run as smooth and safe as possible,” Weyer said.

Weyer considers the project to be a success and maintains a positive outlook for future runs. “I can’t wait to continue and grow the Run For Freedom for next year!”
