Family Day Shutout Win In Prince Albert

Dryden Hunt, Brayden Point, and Noah Gregor had a combined five goals and 12 points Monday in the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-0 win over the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Warriors and Raiders established a quick pace in the first period as they both raced up the ice looking for the game’s first goal.  Moose Jaw outshot Prince Albert 12-5 in the first period but weren’t able to get the puck over the goal line, and the teams went in to the intermission in a scoreless tie.

Moose Jaw burst out of the gates to start the second period.  Noah Gregor created a neutral zone turnover at the red line and pushed the puck ahead for Brayden Point.  The Captain drove inside the Raiders zone on the left wing an came to the top of the circle, he dished the puck cross ice to Dryden Hunt who one-timed his WHL leading 42nd goal of the year.

Prince Albert outshot the Warriors 16-10 in the period with the bulk of their opportunities coming on back-to-back power plays.  Moose Jaw’s penalty kill stood their ground and kept the Raiders off the board.

Late in the middle frame the Warriors went on to the man-advantage.  Dryden Hunt controlled the puck on the left wall and then moved it to Brayden Point between the circles, the Captain quickly set up Noah Gregor for a one-time inside the right circle where he scored his 23rd to make it 2-0 heading to the intermission.

After killing off a penalty the Warriors found themselves back on the power play seven minutes in to the third period, Brayden Point tossed the puck from the left goal line to the front of the net where it went off the Raider and past goalie Rylan Parenteau to make it 3-0.

Prince Albert pulled their goalie late to try and claw back in, but Dryden Hunt scored an empty net goal at 15:51 and then added another at 17:52 to lead the Warriors to the win.

Hunt, who was named the WHL’s Player of the Week before the game, finished with three goals and five points, he has hat tricks in three out of the last five games.  Brayden Point finished with a goal and four points, Noah Gregor had a goal and three points, and Zach Sawchenko made 37 saves to record his second shutout of the year.

Prince Albert outshot the Warriors 37-33, Moose Jaw was 2-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

Moose Jaw returns to action next weekend with three games, Friday they’ll return to Prince Albert for a rematch with the Raiders, Saturday Edmonton will come to town, and then the schedule ends Sunday afternoon against Swift Current at Mosaic Place.
