Funds Granted to Kindersley Airport

The Kindersley airport will get a lift along with 12 other communities this summer as the Government of Saskatchewan is investing about $700,00 in cost-shared grants through the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program.

“Community and regionally-owned airports support vital services like air ambulance, law enforcement, and firefighting,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said in a recent media release.  “We are pleased to be able to partner with 12 communities to upgrade and maintain their local community airports.”

The CAP program is designed to help offset the capital costs of rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements.

Kindersley will receive about $4,000 for runway asphalt preservation. The 11 other communities receiving a lift from the CAP program are North Battleford, Swift Current, the R.M of Eldon, Carlyle, Lucky Lake, Melfort, Moose Jaw, Shaunavon, Tisdale, Weyburn, and Yorkton.

“A mile of highway gets you a mile down the road; a mile of runway gets you the world,” Saskatchewan Aviation Council President Janet Keim said. “I applaud the smaller communities in realizing the potential and value of their airports in both economic growth as well as the social benefits for their region.”

$7 million has been invested in the Community Airport Partnership program since 2007, benefiting 36 community airports through $14 million in airport rehabilitation.
