Halloween Safety Tips

By Rina Rast, Kindersley Social, October 31 2016

As Kindersley celebrates Halloween night, please remember a few of the following tips to keep everyone safe and enjoying the fun.

  • Make sure children under the age of 12 are accompanied by an adult.
  • Wear reflective clothing. Decorate costumes with reflective tape or stickers.
  • Consider carrying flashlights or glow sticks to make the children more visible to drivers.
  • Ensure that costumes are not so long that children could trip on them.
  • Remind children to look left, right, and left again before crossing a street.
  • Always cross streets at corners, and never dart between parked cars.
  • Always make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
  • Watch for vehicles that are backing up.
  • Wear masks that don’t obstruct vision, or chose face paint and makeup instead.

Drivers, please be extra careful as you drive tonight. Reduce your speed and pay extra attention in residential areas. Be ready for extra pedestrian traffic, eliminate distractions within the vehicle, and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to help see the children at greater distances. Exert extra caution between 5:30 pm and 9:30 pm as these are the peak hours for trick-or-treating.
