KCS Youth Swipe Boys and Girls Curling District Championships

The Kindersley Curling Club saw quite a bit of action last weekend as they hosted District Championships for the high-school boys, girls, and mixed teams from schools all over the southwest district.

Kindersley’s KCS Cobras Boys and KCS Cobras Girls each triumphed in a best-of-the-three round last weekend.

District Championships are open for entries from schools in what is dubbed the southwest district; this includes Kindersley, Rosetown, Dinsmore, Outlook and several others. Kindersley hosted the event this year, and several teams from the surrounding schools competed in both the boys, girls, and mixed championships.

This year, only two teams of boys entered the Championship, the KCS Cobras and a team from Dinsmore.  Last Friday, the two teams met for a best-of-the-three round and the Cobras carried the day with two wins in the first two games.  The KCS Boys team was made up of five teammates; Sean Cey, Kyle Edmunds, Kevin Pinno, Daniel Anderson and Josh Enns-Wind.

The KCS Cobras girls met with the same situation as the only other girl team was the LCBI (Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute) team from Outlook.  The Cobras also won in their best-of-the-three match up.  The KCS Girls team was also made up of five teammates; Blair Gilmour, Emily Sproule, Emily Polsfut, Caitlin Elliott and Brittany Allen.

The Kindersley Curling Club has seen a new change since the New Year, as they added a mixed doubles curling night every Tuesday.  With doubles curling, a team can enjoy the challenge of curling without the need to have four players. Because the teams are mixed, couples, friends, neighbors, co-workers or even siblings are welcomed to join the league. Colleen Oscar-Swan, member of the curling club, noted that doubles curling is a fast-paced game, ideal for many who prefer to be hands-on during the game. No other league membership is required, so it is an easy way to enjoy our provincial sport.
