Locally owned and operated since 2015, Kindersley Castle Building Centre is ready to go for another busy summer season.
The lumberyard and building centre was the brainchild of Sheldon Goodheart. He, along with Melody Fries and Richard Reaburn, became officially incorporated as Kindersley Castle in 2015. After a process of construction and many hours of preparation and organization, Kindersley Castle held its grand opening in June of 2016, on the lot previously owned by Kindersley Trailers.
This spring, Kindersley Castle went from three owners to two when Fries and Reaburn bought Goodheart’s shares in the company, land and building.
As a lumberyard and building centre, Kindersley Castle carries practically everything a person needs for home remodeling or building. Stacks of lumber and pallets of roofing shingles line the outdoor yard, cans of paint and stain are ready for eager home designers to choose for their home/backyard designs, and tools and other miscellaneous items are ready to enable folks to get the job done.
Kindersley Castle’s website states, “we’ll supply all the lumber and building materials, home exterior building products and home interior building products you need.” And co-owner Melody Fries backed that during our interview. “We aim for customer service first and foremost,” she said. “So we do our best to have on hand what people need, and if we don’t have it on hand, we will get it for them.”
Browsing their 50, 000 item catalogue you will see anything from kitchen countertops and cupboards to outdoor dog kennels, to fencing articles to garden step stones.

In addition to the products that you would normally assume for a building centre, Kindersley Castle carries the more unexpected and delicious product of Chapmans Ice Cream. Just newly set up in a side nook of the centre, a Chapmans ice cream station is perfect for all comers to enjoy cold, hard ice cream.
Fries said she was pleased to see the new edition open just before May long-weekend. “I said right from the beginning that if we are going to be on the highway, I want to sell hard ice cream. Richard didn’t think much of the idea at first, but since it’s been set up, I’ve caught him enjoying some ice cream so it turns out I was right!”
Melody Fries and Richard Reaburn have had a working partnership since 1989, and Fries said that they work well together as co-owners as they each know their strengths and weaknesses and have realistic expectations of each other. “That doesn’t mean we don’t overlap on jobs when its needed or conflict occasionally, we are co-owners after all, but it’s good to know what each the other does best.”
The business isn’t just about supplying goods and services to the community, but also in supporting the interest of the community. For example, Kindersley Castle is a proud supporter of the 2018 Kindersley Rodeo, the rinks for the Kindersley Curling Club and Iron Horse Klippers, and various ball diamonds in Kindersley. “We are community people, and we enjoy supporting things that are important to the community.”
