Kindersley Clippers Raise the Ante

After meteor-like seasons, Kindersley’s two baseball teams, the Raiders and the Stallions joined forces to take on Provincials as the Kindersley Clippers

This dynamic team placed Kindersley into the semifinals last weekend; the furthest any Clippers team has done in several years.

“Overall, the tournament was pretty successful,” commented Head Coach Clayton Artymovich. “We definitely made a mark as a team while enjoying a weekend of great baseball.”

Located at Yorkton, the 2017 Senior AA Tier 2 Provincial Tournament saw at least eight teams battling for the provincial title. Meeting Swift Current, Oxbow, Carlisle and then finally Lloydminster, the Clippers’ two wins and two losses weekend clearly showed the team’s grit and determination.

“In every game, our pitchers were awesome,” Artymovich recalled. “Carson Harris pulled his absolute best against Swift Current, and Tyler McKee made some unbelievable plays against Carlisle; we wouldn’t have won those games without those two.”

The victory over Carlisle, last year’s title winner, was a particularly sweet moment for the Kindersley Clippers. “I think we shocked everyone, —including ourselves— with that one,” laughed Artymovich.

When it came to Oxbow and Lloydminster, the Clippers came on strong but lacked the needed big hit to pull their team ahead. “We were pushing for a big hit in both games, but never quite got it, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.”

Artymovich noted that this year was still an incredible movement forward for the Clippers. “Each year we come away with more knowledge and more victories, I honestly can’t wait to see what we will be able to do next year.”
