At the Town Council meeting on September 26, representatives of Friends of Kinsmen Park (FOKP) sought Council support on moving forward on the renewal of the Kinsmen Park.
Elyse Moss addressed the Council with a plan of action for the renewal project. Moss outlined three main phases involving:
- The outdoor arena
- The shack
- Playground and Landscaping
“We would like to proceed on the renovation of the outdoor rink next month, to have it operational and safe for use by this coming winter,” stated Moss. She said that with the success of their first annual barbecue fundraiser, FOKP has successfully raised $7000 for the renewal of the park. “Being fortunate enough to live in a community with skilled individuals who have graciously offered their in-kind services, the majority of the labour is going to be completed at no charge, and this is reducing our proposed project significantly,” said Moss.
“I think it’s a great idea for Council to match funds,” said Acting Mayor Shaun Henry. “Kudos to the group, especially for raising $7000, and for going forward and getting those in-kind costs looked at.” The Council was in favour of moving forward in the park’s renewal process:
“We’ll do what we can to make this a reality,” said Henry.
