Kindersley Pewees Take Provincials

Even with the blazing July heat and tornado warnings, the Kindersley Peewee Provincial Baseball team made its mark, taking the provincial title for their age group.

On the weekend of July 21-23, the team traveled to Moosomin SK for the 10 team tournament. The packed playing schedule resulted in double header games three days straight. “It was a lot of ball that weekend,” says Coach Peter Krahn, “But the kids persevered, played their best, and it certainly paid off.”

Kindersley definitely wowed the stands at their first game as they pulled off an 18-0 win over Assiniboia. Taking a slight step backward, they lost their next game to Kipling, 9-8.

Saturday became the do-or-die day as the Kindersley team needed more wins to continue in the tournament and the team delivered. Their game with Gull Lake was an exciting 9-5 in Kindersley’s favour, and they quickly followed it up with a 5-2 game over Saskatoon.

Sunday was an even hotter day, but Kindersley would not be stopped. They “mercied” Southey after a quick 14-3 game and secured their title after a 15-2 victory over Rosetown.

Coach Krahn noted that the depth of the Kindersley team particularly for the pitching was a great asset for the whole weekend. “In all, it was great to see the every single team member playing their top when it really mattered.”
